The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a program that helps supplement the diets of people with low income by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost.
Through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), the Food Bank of Northern Indiana receives commodities purchased by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), administered through the Indiana State Department of Health and, from here, distributed to 60 partner agencies that participate in the TEFAP program. Once the commodities are at the food pantries and soup kitchens that house the USDA products, they are distributed to hungry neighbors.
TEFAP enables the Food Bank of Northern Indiana to provide more individuals with healthy perishable and non-perishable food options. These commodities help supplement pantry supplies to those 60 Food Bank partner agencies that participate in this program.
